Top Five SEO Tips

1. Build a search engine friendly website without session ID’s that a search engine spider can crawl.

2. Add link-worthy content that compels users to link to you. Useful content not available elsewhere on the Internet.

3. Hire a professional search engine optimization firm that has resources that you don’t have.

4. Use keywords that your target audience is likely to use. For example, people who want to buy “The Closing of the American Mind” by Allan Bloom are not going to be searching for “book” or “books”. They will most likely use the book title or the author name as a search term.

5. Spend money. You have to spend it to make it, and advertising proves to the customer that you are serious about your business.

Link Building Tips for SEO

As the search engines have moved away from looking at “on-page” factors, link building is perhaps the single most important aspect of search engine optimization today when it comes down to rankings.  Now if you think you’re going to go out and get a bunch of links and then magically rank higher in the SERPs, you’ve got another thing coming. Ranking in the search engines and ranking for certain for your keywords, requires gaining linkage with much more care and planning.

Search engines have progressed, and can now effectively spot and devalue many paid links.  They avaluate links coming into your website for quality, devalueing links coming from “bad neighborhoods.”  There are so many factors that go into effective link building that it would be worth your while to check out some good link building tips before you embark on a new link building campaign.  Good places to start would be V7, blog.v7n.com, and other top SEO websites such as Search Engine Watch.  You might even want to attend an SEO conference such as Search Engine Strategies or Search Marketing Expo.

Importance of quality web hosting for SEO

The company that you use to host your websites can significantly affect your site in terms of search engine optimization. How so? Well one of the most obvious is that when you host with a low-quality web host that overloads their servers, when the search engine bots make their way to your site, there is a high probability that it will experience slow connection speeds, or not even be able to access the site at all. When the search engine bots cannot access a page within a certain amount of time, they’ll move on to the next link, or worse yet, the next website.

Other factors that can come into play when you’re trying to optimize your site for the search engines are the IP numbers and Class C subnets associated with your hosting. By spreading out your websites over various IPs and Class C subnets, you’ll be able to effectively create your own network of sites that you can use to link to eachother, without the search bots detecting them as being on the same hosting account and devalueing them.

So instead of lumping all your sites on one server, with one host, spread them out. But before you go out and host with just anyone, do your research. Ask other webmasters about their experiences and recommendations, and check out web hosting reviews. Getting a good host is of the utmost importance, and can significantly impact your placement in search engines.

Forums: Great resources for SEO professionals

Forums, or discussion boards, are a great resource for SEO professionals who want to interact with other industry pros and stay on top of the industry.  Not only does participating in search engine optimization forums afford you the opportunitiy to discuss issues with other industry pros, but it also is a great way to build relationships with other internet professionals and webmasters who might one day want to use your services. For those SEOers who like to give a little back to the community, you’ll also find SEO forums a rewarding opportunity to help other webmasters figure out some of the basics.

There are a lot of SEO forums out there, but by far the best one that I have come across is the V7N SEO Forums, founded by John Scott.  If you’re looking to learn a bit more about SEO, and interact with peers, stop by V7 where you’ll find one of the most friendly and helpful online communities.

Buying Dot Coms

For any of you budding entrepreneurs are thinking about buying a dot com company, make sure before you go ahead with the purchase, you do some good quality research first. Trust me, I found out the hard way.

About two years ago I had the unfortunate experience of purchasing an SEO site that on the surface appeared to be quite profitable. Within about 2 months, I’d lost thousands of dollars on a purchase that I didn’t do enough research about.

The primary service of this organization is to unite those engaged in the sale of businesses with potential buyers wishing to purchase a business - be it for the first time or as an addition to their current portfolio of businesses. These guys pride themselves on offering a high standard of professionalism and commitment to providing the best possible match available to their clients.

For those entrepreneurs who have never owned a business it is important to have a clear picture of your investment, idea and future goals for your new venture. You must also know what skills you have to bring to the table in order to make your business profitable. Unfortunately, I was quite young when I purchased the SEO site and was clouded by thoughts of success rather than clear, structured goals for the future.

California Business Brokers
is the best solution for matching both buyers and sellers in a confidential and ethical manner. They do everything above board and offer legal advice on all aspects of the business purchase. Be it an SEO site or a regular business, this is a one stop shop to help you achieve your dream of owning your own business.
