A Blog Can Be A Long Hard Slog
My partner in blogging, Steve Oliver, called me the other day to announce he is quitting the SEO game. He’s fed up spending half his life chained to a computer terminal, he says. He’s planning a long trip to Canada’s Algonquin National Park as a way to distress and rethink his career goals. I was distressed to hear of his intended departure, but I sympathize. It’s a rough game; it ain’t for everybody, that’s for sure.
The fact of the matter is though, I firmly believe at least – that if you want to achieve results with your blogs you have to stick at it for the long term. To paraphrase Donald Rumsfeld, link-building is a “long, hard slog.” If you’re in it, I suggest you stay in it to win it. After five years doing this myself, it is only now that I’m seeing some pleasing exponential growth.
I think one reason as well is my decision to enlist Web Directory 7 as my newest web directory partner. They’ve got a really sharp staff running the show over there, and I’ve clearly benefited from them by obtaining some excellent links to quality websites. Sadly, I signed up with Web Directory 7 after Steve cashed in his chips with our venture, so he wasn’t able to share much in our new found growth. It’s a rough game, as I said.
